Neon FM® for Mobile

Neon FM® is an electrified rhythm & action game for arcades and mobile. Players pound the five colored panels with their hands to the beat of the music and are scored on their timing. The game features local and online multiplayer, downloadable content, and arcade VS mobile live cross-platform competition. Neon FM was featured by Apple in the Music game section on their App Store.

The mobile version uses a freemium model where 3 different songs are free every day. Players earn silver coins by playing tracks and performing well, which can be used to purchase individual plays like quarters in an arcade (1 silver coin = 1 play). Gold coins can be purchased in the store, and allow players to buy unlocks, songs, or packs of songs for permanent unlimited free play thereafter.

I designed the title and did most of the artwork and logos for the game, coded the original version (including netcode) and worked with one other programmer thereafter, timed and cut music tracks and wrote many of the note and lightshow patterns, and directed marketing and sales. The game was developed in C# and Unityscript for Unity 3D with additional software including TortoiseSVN, Visual Studio, XCode, Illustrator, Photoshop, ACID Pro, GoldWave, and Reason. Servers are hosted on Amazon AWS.

World’s Fastest Drummer® Arcade™

World's Fastest Drummer® Arcade™

World’s Fastest Drummer® Arcade™ brings WFD’s international extreme sport speed drumming competition to the arcade. Players engage with the 10-to-30 second Normal mode or the 60 second Pro mode, drumming as quickly as they can within the time limit. Tickets are distributed (if enabled), and the score is recorded online for global high score competition. WFD Arcade is carried by Namco USA and other distributors/operators.

I designed the game and arcade cabinet and created the graphics, worked alongside another programmer for the codebase, and directed marketing and sales. The game was developed in C# and C++ for Unity 3D with additional software including Visual Studio, Illustrator, Photoshop, ACID Pro, and GoldWave.

Neon FM® is an electrified rhythm & action game for arcades and mobile. Players pound the five colored panels with their hands to the beat of the music and are scored on their timing. The game features local and online multiplayer, a mobile version, downloadable content, and cross-platform competition.

Unit-e partnered with Andamiro Corp. Ltd. of South Korea to redesign the cabinet and enhance the user interface for the east Asian market.

I designed the game and did most of the artwork and logos (aside from the mascots and note receptors provided by Andamiro), coded the original version (including netcode) and worked with one other programmer thereafter, timed and cut music tracks and wrote many of the note and lightshow patterns, and directed marketing and sales. Cardiac: Fitness Racer™

Cardiac™ is a combination of cardio equipment and a racing game. Players are seated in a recumbent bike and pedal and steer, racing against other players who are either seated next to them or online in other venues.

I designed the game while attending University of Baltimore and developed it in Unityscript for Unity3D with 3ds Max, Illustrator, and Photoshop; as well as directing marketing and providing all graphics including logos. The intended B2B market was gyms, schools, and arcades.

Transgression™ (2012)

Transgression™ is an arcade-style game that was released on the Xbox Live Indie Games platform in 2012 and is available for 80 MS points ($1). Gameplay is similar to the classic arcade game “joust”, but with a cyberpunk twist.

The game was a solo project while I attended the University of Baltimore, and was programmed in C# with the Microsoft XNA framework, with 3D models created in 3ds Max and rendered as 2D sprites in Photoshop. I also composed the music in Reason.

Marathon//Max (2009)

Marathon//Max is a total conversion for the MaxFX 2 engine used in Max Payne 2. The game merges a semi-modern 3D engine with the concepts and assets used in Bungie’s early 90s sci-fi “Marathon” trilogy, transforming a single-player 3rd-person experience into a multiplayer 2nd-person (over-the-shoulder) deathmatch. The game was released to ModDB in 2009 and its listing has been visited over 50,000 times.

I designed the mod as a solo project, imported and modified Marathon assets from Bungie (as well as high-quality community assets), and created all levels, particles, models, graphics, audio, and anything else not covered above. Software used includes MaxED, ParticleFX, Max Payne scripting, 3ds Max, Photoshop, and Goldwave.

Neon FM®: Dance Radio™ (2005)

Neon FM®: Dance Radio™ is a 5-panel arcade dance game designed to focus to North American musical tastes. The machine was engineered to use a revolutionary capacitive-sensing system which would use the player’s natural electrical field to activate the foot panels, resulting in a more natural dance experience and lowering the maintenance requirements of the machine dramatically.

Neon FM was picked up by Betson Enterprises (the largest manufacturer and distributor of arcade machines in the US) and the developer Pop’nKO M&E was signed to an exclusive distribution contract that was worth millions. Unfortunately, the project was sidelined when Betson decided to instead proceed with Konami on “DDR Supernova.”

I designed the game and arcade cabinet, provided most of the non-illustrated artwork including logos, wrote many of the note patterns (“stepcharts”) used, composed several music tracks, scripted animations, and directed marketing and sales. The software engine used was a heavily modified version of Stepmania 3.9, coded in C. Additional software includes TortoiseSVN, Illustrator, Photoshop, ACID Pro, and Reason.

RFpay™

RFpay is a cashless payment system with a robust feature set, including user info retention, redundant card & tracked coin payments, and area denial with ID verification. The system is assembled in the USA. Modern arcades typically use a swipe-card system for payments, and the RFpay system was designed to disrupt the market by offering a sleek modern design (competitors mostly use carnival-themed rainbow-colored bubble shells), every feature offered by other brands and then some, all at the lowest price in the industry.

I designed the Kiosk and the frontend interface for the kiosk and admin software, created the online store, provided graphics used including logos, and directed marketing and sales. Development software includes Git, Sourcetree, Shopify’s tools, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Languages and frameworks include HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, MySQL, C++, and Bootstrap. JokersGames.com

JokersGames.com was an online games portal and brick-and-mortar arcade located in Baltimore, Maryland. The online site allowed players to buy points with a credit card, play a variety of skill games to win additional points, and convert their points to actual novelty silver prizes that (via its partnership with Gold Farm™) could be shipped to their home, stored in the vault, or resold for cash and deposited to a player’s bank account.

I co-founded the company and designed the web portal, logos, and associated graphics. Software used includes Git, SourceTree, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Frameworks and languages include HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, Bootstrap, and MySQL. The site is hosted on Amazon AWS.

GoldFarm.net

GoldFarm.net is a website that enables companies (such as Jokers Games™) to reward their customers with sterling silver prizes. Their customers can store earnings in the vault, have silver shipped to their home, or sell silver for cash deposits to their bank account via a partnership with Dwolla. The admin interface gives staff the ability to verify photo ID and fulfill orders (sales and shipments).

I co-founded the company, designed the layout, logo, and graphics, and coded parts of the interface and database. Software used includes Git, SourceTree, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Frameworks and languages include HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, Bootstrap, and MySQL. The site is hosted on Amazon AWS.

Showcase Chrono™ Timer System

The Showcase Chrono™ Timer System is a precision timing kit made in the USA with a 6+ year legacy and is in use at over 50 venues worldwide. Units are sold direct and through our distributors at Adventure Solutions, a company officially licensed by American Ninja Warrior to build “Ninja Courses” powered by Unit-e‘s timing hardware.

I designed the interface for the TVs and Touchscreen monitors, provided artwork including logos, created the online store, and directed marketing and sales. Development software includes Shopify’s tools, CSS, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
